MALACCA: Started as a little shop that sells only Mille Crepe, Nadeje Patisserie has expanded into a two-shoplot cafe that serves light snacks and healthy beverages at Plaza Mahkota here.
Its owner Nozomi Nishimura, 34, said she decided to expand her business to show gratitude and thank her loyal customers.
“Our supporters wanted to dine in, but we couldn’t do so due to the limited space. That’s when the idea of expanding the business came in,” said the delighted Nozomi.

On the wall are Nozomi’s collection of paintings she bought from famous museums overseas. She has used her teapot and glass collection to decorate the featured cabinet behind the bartender area.
The staff wear all black, formal shirts during working hours.
Nozomi pointed out that the uniforms were tailor-made.
“Black is a very elegant colour. Together with our interior design and uniformed dress code, we hope to give our customers a feeling that they are entering a cafe that has a class on its own and where the food is affordable,” said Nozomi.
A nutritionist, Nozumi insisted that all food and beverages sold in Nadeje Patisserie was fresh, of high quality or grade, contained no preservatives, chemicals, artificial flavouring and colouring.
Most of the ingredients used in the making the beverages are imported from Japan.
Under the tea category, there is apple tea (apple, cinnamon and banana), strawberry tea (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry and coconut) and berry-berry tea (sweet berry and strawberry).
Other specialties include matcha milk, ginger ale, fruit tea and strawberry milkshake.
Amos Chong Kai Fei, 25, who co-owns the cafe and is also the chief chef behind Nadeje Patisserie, was glad about the opening of the cafe.
“It is part of our plan to say thank you to our loyal customers, who have been supporting us for the past one year after we first started out,” said Chong.
Apart from Mille Crepe that made Nadeje Patisserie a new brand name in town, Chong has churned out two new flavoured cakes and a new pastry.
Chocolat-Chocola is a two-layered cake with two different types of chocolate. Bitter chocolate is used for the bottom layer and sweet chocolate for the upper layer.
“It is recommended for chocolate lovers,” said Nozomi.
Fruit tart cake is another new item added to the menu.
Homemade almond paste and custard cream are used as the filling, with six to seven different fruits as topping.
Bagel sand is a type of bread that does not use butter, hence, fulfilling the healthy food concept that Nadeje is upholding.
Before the yeast takes its maximum effect, the dough is quickly rinsed in boiling water to stop the dough from rising.
By doing this, the outer surface of the bread will be crunchy and the inside soft and chewy.
“Currently, there are two patisseries in Malaysia that serve authentic bagel sand. One is in Kuala Lumpur and the other is our cafe,” said Chong.
All ingredients used in baking the two cakes and bagel sand are imported from Japan, homemade, and contain no chemicals or artificial flavouring.
“Malaysia’s food are basically spicy, oily and not very healthy. I hope to introduce healthy food to locals in Malacca through Nadeje,” said Nozomi.
